Canoeing

Bewl Water

Kayaking & Open Canoeing is taught in small groups by qualified British Canoe Union (BCU) coaches  through the BCU training scheme. Our Bewl Water based courses teach skills in both kayaks and open canoes :-

Scouts  &  Guides : 

Paddle Power - Start, Passport & Discovery Awards.

Explorers, Rangers, Scout Network & Adults:

The new 1 Star & 2 Star Awards (The Passport & 2 Star awards are equivalent to the Scout Canoeist Badge & Explorer Canoeist Badge respectively).

It is possible for absolute beginners to gain an entry level award in one weekend, however to achieve the more advanced awards will require more experience to attain the necessary skills.  Paddlers are encouraged to attend further courses (see below) with us under our coaches' guidance to perfect their skills.

In addition we are able to offer training & assessment in the following:

Canoe Safety Test,  The new BCU Coach Level 1 & 2,  The new 3 & 4 Star awards for White Water (Kayak), Open Canoe & Placid Water.

Moving water experience, BCU 3 & 4 Star White Water (Kayak) training & assessment is held in Wales with indoor accommodation. (Course 8).

Kayaking / Canoening  Permit Assessment - Bewl Water

Various water activity assessment opportunities have been provided during the year as part of the introduction of the Adventurous Activity Permit scheme. During this event members will be able to demonstrate their skills and aptitude to taking scouts afloat. (see factsheet FS 120100). Alternative dates can be agreed directly with the appropriate assessor if required.

Scout Canoeist Badge - Leybourne

Suitable for Scouts who wish to achieve the Scout Canoeist or Basic Nautical Skills badge. This Leybourne lake event is designed to enable the Scout to work towards the BCU 1 & 2 star award and pass if suitably proficient.
