Narrow Boat Handling
The aim of the course is to provide a sound introduction to boat handling and the associated knowledge to enable Scout Leaders to take a party safely on the canal as required under the Water Activity Authorisation Scheme of the Scout Association. Successful candidates will be awarded the Certificate in Community Boat Management which is a nationally recognized qualification.
Subjects covered include the following:
- Boat handling under way, mooring up and leaving moorings, entering and leaving locks (both single and double).
- Turning around in winding holes, rules of the road, control of the boat in confined spaces, in narrow bridge openings and in tunnels,
- Use of safety equipment and route planning for a short journey will also be covered.
Venue: Braunston, Northamptonshire. (Nr Rugby) The cost includes all accommodation (On board) and food.
Times: The 5 day course starts Monday at 1.00 pm and finishes on Friday at 1.00 pm. The weekend courses start on Friday and finish on Sunday.
