Power Boating - Permit Holders

The Power Boating Permit refers to the type of boats used, not the type of waters sailed on. Power Boats are powered primarily by an engine, and have no built in accommodation or cabin area.

A Power Boating permit is required for all power boating taking place in all classes of water. There are three main types of permits available for power boating; Personal, Leadership, Supervisory, for all classes of water.

Personal Permit, allows a young person (under 18) to take part in power boating activities with others with a personal power boating permit.

It does not allow you to go power boating with anyone not holding a power boating permit.

Leadership Permit, allows the permit holder to lead power boating for a single boat.

You can look after one boat at a time
You need to remain in the boat whenever it is being used.

Supervisory Permit, allows the permit holder to remotely supervise power boating with up to 3 boats.

All boats should be within communication range of the permit holder.
The permit holder will need to be in or have immediate access to a rescue craft and be in a position to provide prompt assistance if required.
The permit holders needs to designate a boat leader, this designation only lasts for the current activity.
People designated as boat leaders should have the necessary skills and be responsible enough to lead that boat safely on the class of water being sailed.
The Permit holder remains responsible for all groups at all times.

A current First Aid qualification to be held by the named instructor or by another person on the activity.
