Barming Panthers Cub Scouts
Sue Beeney, ACSL from Barming Panthers tells us about their recent visit, "Dean Upson came to talk to us about the new Scout Memorial at the National Arboretum and the Cubs learned the significance of being awarded the Lest We Forget Badge when they attend our Remembrance Service. We then used the RBL Poppy Kit to make our individual We Will Remember Them wreaths.
The open wreath was made by the Cubs to take home and put on their doors to show their respect in this special commemorative year. We also held a special Cubs Own on that evening with two candles ( one for each of WW1 & WW2) to remember each of the members of the armed forces who were mentioned on our Barming Memorial and I laid virtual poppies at the site of their known resting place and a commemoration on their individual page on the Every Man Remembered site for all those men from Barming from WW1.
We laid the WW1 and WW2 at Barming War Memorial during our Remembrance Service after the official wreaths were laid.
This was in addition to the very moving single candlelit Cubs Own we held at camp back in August to mark the 100th anniversary of WW1 by remembering all those men who died during the Great War who had the name of Panther. They were commemorated on the Every Man Remembered site in the same way".
