Kent Scouts’ Charities of the Year - 2017
Kent Scouts’ Charities of the Year
Our charities of the year have been selected and this year, there will be three of them:
Look out for the online resources that will be released soon, detailing who they are and what their purpose is, fundraising ideas and ways to get involved and ways they can help us!
We’d love you to actively support these charities by holding fundraising events or getting involved with ones the County hold. Look out for details that will soon be released about a County Charity Activity Day! If you are taking part in Winter Survival this year or another hike, why not consider doing it in aid of charity which will also count towards your Fundraising badge.
The charities will be working in partnership with Kent Scouts to provide a Kent Scouts’ Charity of the Year badge. It will be available to anyone who has actively supported one of our COTY. There will be a competition to create the design for the badge, for which information will be released shortly.
If you have any questions, or would like more information about the charities, email Natalie Forester.
Demelza Hospice Care for Children is all about life – helping those who may not live a long life to live a full life. Demelza offers short breaks, family support services, therapies and end-of-life care for children and young people, affected by life-limiting and life-threatening conditions, across East Sussex, Kent and South East London.
Whether in family homes across East Sussex or in the family hospices in Sittingbourne and Eltham, Demelza provides compassionate and expert care for babies, children, young people and their families, when they need it the most. Precious moments and happy memories are created as Demelza provides the space for families to enjoy quality time whilst being supported by quality care. Almost all of Demelza services are free of charge to families.
As a charity, not part of the NHS, Demelza is reliant on generous donations from local individuals, groups and businesses to be able to provide care free of charge to families. If your group is planning a fund raiser, why not consider one of the below or alternatively, do something completely different:
- Sponsored events
- Bake Sale
- Bring and Buy Sale
- Put on a Show (Fashion, Talent...)
- Disco with refreshments
- Quiz nights (we have one you could use)
- Bag Pack
For any further information or if you want help in how to organise the fundraiser or supporting material, please contact Jennifer Heritage on firstname.lastname@example.org or 01795 845288. www.demelza.org.uk
We are on a mission to make sure every single blind child has the self-belief and skills to fulfil the potential we know they’ve got.
There are currently an estimated 22,000 blind and partially sighted children and young people in England and Wales. Every day four more children will be diagnosed with sight loss.
Helping blind children to believe they can achieve their dreams takes time and money. But we’ll do it from the ground up, working with our wonderful donors and volunteers to deliver the five things we believe will transform the life chances of every blind child in England and Wales.
Five ways to better
- Helping parents first
- Excellent and inclusive education
- Build friendships and character
- Getting young people job ready
- Harnessing technology
As young people in Kent, couts of all ages occupy a unique position in the community to reach the audience of one of the biggest counties in the United Kingdom. Scouts can therefore play a pivotal role in achieving wider goals of community cohesion and social development.
The RSBC has created this leaflet so you can find out more about them and see some suggested fundraising activities you can undertake that will facilitate improving your knowledge of charity work and at the same time give you a chance to achieve even more cool badges! www.rsbc.org.uk.
