The UK Scout Association has issued an update which affects Scouting based on the UK Governments announcement this afternoon.

As a County we are asking our teams to come up with innovative ways to support Scouting so that it can continue at distance. This includes sectional support, training, District support and more. We will be sharing more on this in the coming days.

We would also encourage Groups to look at ways of providing Scouting digitally - online meetings, badges completed at home etc. We know there are some great ideas out there, so please share what you are doing! The Scout Association and OSM are also working on resources. In addition online Scout forums are alive with creative ideas.

This provides an interesting challenge, but Scouting has always been a movement, we adapt and inspire!

Finally, we know with this being a fast moving situation a lot has occurred in a short period of time and it will no doubt affect plans. If you have questions, concerns or just need a chat, please get in touch with the relevant people from the County Team, County Office or your local District Teams - and we'll do our best to help support (just bear in mind as volunteers we're potentially juggling our own Coronavirus situations).

We aim to provide further updates, suggestions and information in the coming days!

Our Updates
Kent Cubs Heaver Castle Trip

By now I am sure you will all have seen the latest news about the Covid19 Coronavirus outbreak and the measures that the Government are asking everyone to take. With this in mind the decision has been taken to postpone our trip to Hever Castle until a bit later in the year. We are already in talks with the Castle to find a date and promise that you all will be the first to hear about it.

In the meantime, stay safe and well - this won't last forever then we can all get on with doing what we do best, providing adventures for the young people of Kent.

Yours in Scouting

Hannah, Graham and the team

The Cub and Beaver Adventure Days at Lower Grange Farm are sadly cancelled for this year due to the ongoing Coronavirus situation.

We will be back in 2021 – bigger and better! You can put the dates in your diary – 8th and 9th May 2021 with details early next year.

Users of Online Scout Manager can take advantage of new functionality being added to assist with completing badges remotely.

Participation in any “Nights in” and “Camp at Home” activities recommended and encouraged by Kent Scouts or any Group or District that are part of Kent scouting are totally under the control, safety and permission of the parent or carers of each young person. Under no circumstances will Kent Scouts accept any liability or responsibility for any accidents; incident or injury to any person or persons or damage to property whilst participating in these activities.

District returns

The NCVO has published some useful guidance to help Executive Committees consider how they can best support Scouts locally during this time.

Any charity that needs an extension to their annual return deadline can contact the Charity Commission to ask for one. Please see their guidance here.

POR has been amended allowing meetings to be held remotely. It also allows decisions to be made electronically. This is valid immediately and will be updated in the next update to POR, in early April. The wording is as follows:

  • Electronic voting (such as email) is allowed for decision making of the County/District/Group Executive Committee and its sub-Committees when deemed appropriate by the Chair. In such instances at least 75% of committee members must approve the decision.
  • The County/District/Group Executive Committee & its sub-Committees can meet by telephone conference, video conference as well as face to face in order to discharge its responsibilities when agreed by the appropriate Chair.
