Maidstone and Malling Cubs - Olympians of the Future
70 Cubs from Maidstone and Malling took part in a special Athletes Badge day on 13th October 2007, at the Julie Rose Stadium, Ashford. They were coached by the professional sports coaches from the stadium to hone their skills before attempting their badges.
The Cub Scout Athletes badge consists of eight disciplines and the Cubs have to achieve a good score in four of those to gain their badge. Cubs who have already gained their badge previously can improve their skills to gain the Athletes Plus badge.
During the day the Cubs used the professional facilities at the stadium and were able to improve and learn new skills. The long jump pits were very popular and one Cub showed a particular talent at this. The 1000 metre run was gruelling, but everyone persevered and whilst some were out of breath at the end, they all managed a respectable time.
At the end of the day every Cub had achieved their badge and were proud to stand on the winner’s podium to receive a certificate and badge.
Well done everyone who took part.
