Kaleidoscope 2010!

Wow! What a weekend Kent Beaver scouts and Cubs have just experienced!

Over 2,100 Beaver Scouts and Cubs from all over Kent descended on Holmesdale Technology College on 3rd & 4th July to take part in Kent Scouts special event Kaleidoscope!

Boys and girls between the ages of 6yrs to 10 yrs from twenty three Districts’ in Kent had loads of fun trying a wide range of activities. We had three Zones, Air, Land and Water the activities were based around this theme. This was the first time for many of the young people to try their hand at the climbing wall, Astrodome, flying simulators, parachuting teddy bears, mad science, Tom Swift’s clowns & show, drumming work shop, remote control boats and the largest range of inflatable you have ever seen! All washed down with lots of squash, candy floss & popcorn! What an amazing site to see so many Beavers having the time of there life!

The queue  for the monkey bridge and swing boat which local Scouts and Leaders built especially for the event were just as long as for the large inflatable!  Traditional scouting hand in hand with modern day scouting! District’s came up trumps with lots of interesting games and crafts. Leaders were so impressed at all the programme ideas they picked up for the future!

A team of over ninety Leaders, Scouts, Explorers, and members of Scout active support manned bases and helped with the smooth running of the event, a Hugh thank you to everyone!

Wayne Bulpitt the National Commissioner for Scouts visited on Saturday to meet the beavers & Cubs and chat to all the Leaders. He kindly judged the Model competition during the morning and presented a Beaver Scout from Mote Park his Chief scouts Bronze award.

Kathy Smith Assistant County Commissioner for Kent Beaver scouts said "It’s a great opportunity for Beavers and Cubs to link together and experience the big picture of scouting, promote independence and have lots of fun!"
