Nights Away
Nights Away or residential events, such as camping or sleepovers, are a key part of Scouts. They’re something that every young person should have the opportunity to take part in as part of Kent Scouts.
We are in the process of building this page and populating it with support materials to help aid nights away with Kent Scouts, so please bear with us whilst we make this happen.
In the meantime please note the following from the County Nights Away team;
Each district will have their own timescale for you to send in your NAN form and Risk Assessments for approval to your District Lead Volunteers or their designated approver. Please give yourself enough time in your planning process to get these sent in good time, the 7 days mentioned on the NAN is a minimum, but your approvers may require more time to be able to read, advise and approve them, due to work loads. Make sure you are using the most up to date NAN form, edition 11. Link at the bottom of the page.
Please make sure that your Risk Assessments are specific to the location that your NA event is taking place. As it quite clearly states on the scout HQ website, the examples are for ideas, they should not be copied. Please also remember that since Jan23 you must have contingency plans on your RA, they should be risk assessed, this is for the main events, E.G. you cannot do the archery booked at the site as the instructor has gone sick... What are you going to do instead? The link for the up-to-date RA template is at the bottom of the page.
If you are planning a county NA event, please make sure you send in your NAN 21 days minimum before your event. If you have any questions, please get in contact with the nights away team.
For training opportunities please keep any eye on the iScout newsletter and/or the Kent Scouts training hub!
Happy Camping!
