Project Re-Draw aims to review our District boundaries across Kent over the next few years. Kent currently has 22 Districts, each varying in size, number of Scout Groups and volunteer support. Following consultation with District Leadership Teams, many Districts struggle to maintain full teams, with volunteers experiencing fatigue due to multiple roles.
This is the chance to undertake a review of our current Districts and potentially merge smaller Districts. This could improve volunteer support, reduce duplication of resources and create more sustainable District teams. Any Scout Groups on the boundaries between Districts will also be reviewed as to which District they will sit within.
Our Project Re-Draw Working Group will oversee the process and implementation.
We're planning to ensure that the following key principles are met throughout this process:
- Adult volunteer ratio of at least 25%
- Goal of a minimum of 10 Scout Groups per District
- Goal of a minimum of 800 young people per District
- A mix of IMD areas across all Districts
This process will require detailed analysis and consultation before a decision can be obtained. The process involves:
- Consulting with District Teams and the wider Kent membership
- Approval from the County Lead Volunteer and County Trustee Board
- Communicating changes with Districts
- Undertake mergers (3 phases in total). This will include financial and asset transfer and team structuring
