How You Could Help Run a Scout District

How You Could Help Run a Scout District

Scouting in Kent is run by Scout Districts, supported by the County Team. The district team work behind the scenes to help our volunteers deliver a brilliant, adventurous programme of activities to the young people in the district’s scout groups.

Scouting Districts are built around people.

  • People who give a little time.
  • People who support each other.
  • People who help young people grow in confidence, skills and independence.

And the good news is — you don’t need to be an expert to be part of it.

Our structure is here to support you, every step of the way.

District Team Structure

District Lead Volunteer

At the heart of the District is the District Lead Volunteer — someone who helps bring people together, provides direction, and creates the conditions for Scouting to thrive.

This isn’t about doing everything yourself. It’s about supporting others to succeed.

In practice, this means:

  • Providing leadership and direction
  • Supporting and empowering volunteers
  • Bringing people together
  • Ensuring quality, safety and inclusion
  • Helping Scouting grow

You don’t need to be an expert — just someone who enjoys working with others and wants to make a difference.

You’re Not Expected to Do This Alone

The District Lead Volunteer is supported by a team whose role is to make volunteering easier, more enjoyable, and more rewarding.

Whether you’re helping every week or just occasionally, there is a network around you — ready to guide, support and encourage.

How We Support You

When people think about volunteering, they often worry:

  • I don’t have enough time
  • I wouldn’t know what to do
  • I’m not experienced enough

That’s exactly why our teams exist.
