Water sports (Sail)

The Kent Scouts Watersports Sail Team support:

Dinghy Sailing

Boats and equipment come in all shapes and sizes and cater for the fact that people do not come in a standard size, so there will be an option to suit you.

Every time you go out on the water you will have a unique experience, as the wind strength, direction and all the other weather factors will constantly be changing and challenging you.

If you live in a landlocked area miles from the sea, that is not a problem either as the majority of lakes, reservoirs, and rivers near you will have activities going on.

Many venues will have competitive racing fleets as well as offering the option just to go and float around, so once you have mastered the basics there will be plenty of new challenges for you to get your teeth into.

Contact the Activities Sailing Team who will be able to guide you to activity venues.

Kent Scouts also promote a range of sail experiences through partner and affiliated organisations that include Bewl Watersports.

Windsurfing

Dinghy Sailing can be accessed by just about anyone regardless of location, age or mobility. Dinghy sailing is fun and laid-back if all you want to do is float around an inland lake and just take in the view, or it can be fast and exhilarating as you hang out on the trapeze of a lightweight racing boat.

Even if you have never thought about dinghy sailing before and have no idea about rigging a boat or identifying the boom from the bumkin, it does not matter.

Kent Scouts offer Topper fun days, and 'Try Sailing' days as well as working with other clubs and organisations to give you the opportunity to try out this great sport.

Dinghy sailing is for anyone, wherever the wind hits the water.

Please contact the Activities Sailing Team to find out how you can get onto some water near you and have some fun.

Please be aware that to take part in this activity you do need to have a qualified leader / instructor / permit holder. But dont worry as the Kent Scouts Activities Sailing Team can provide these for you or advise you on where to find them.
